Hey Guys,
I know we are now into February but I had some interest in seeing it so I'm going to be sharing my favorite beauty products of 2020. I am splitting the favorites into best of makeup and best of skincare. I will be starting with makeup. Its definitely been a weird year so my makeup preferences and routines have changed quite a bit. Since I worked from home from March to October I barley wore makeup more than 1-2x a week. Now that I am going to the office 2x a week I am wearing it some more but covid has changed my makeup preferences and what works for me on a daily basis. I'm going to share the makeup items that I reached for the most in 2020 and just couldn't live without! I will link all of the products discussed below in the text as well as at the "SHOP THIS POST" at the bottom of this post. Keep reading to hear my Best of Makeup 2020!
Wander Beauty Mile High Club Mascara
I am very picky with mascara and have try tons through out each year. This was a mascara that I tried through Influenster and repurchased several times since then. I love the brush and it does a great job at lengthening my lashes!
Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara
This is another mascara that I was able to test out through Influenster. Again, I love the brush and it does an amazing job at lengthening my lashes while also giving volume and drama. It also has little fiber tubes that attach to your lashes to make them look even longer! HERE are some pics of my lashes using this mascara.
MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot Eyeshadow
This is an oldie but goodie that has been in my favorites since before I even did yearly or monthly favorites. I have been using this product since before I even had a blog and before I was obsessed with makeup like I am now. Its the base I use for 99% of my makeup looks. I have tried other eyeshadow primers and ALWAYS go back to this. The shades I use are Painterly and Soft Ochre. It does a great job at cancelling veins and redness while creating a smooth even canvas for any eye look. It also helps keep the shadows from creasing and help them last longer.
Nyx Dark Circle Concealer
I have been using this under eye corrector for years. It has a peachy tone and helps cancel out the bluish/purple of my under eyes. I still use a concealer on top for extra coverage. It's still great to use alone for no makeup days or if you only have mild dark circles.
ColourPop Cosmetics Creme Gel Liners
I don't wear eyeliners on my top lash line and haven't for years. However, I always wear eyeliner on my waterline of my lower lashes. The main liners that I use are these. Honey Dude is my go to as its a nude liner for everyday. When I want to spice things up and add a little more drama I go with Over Board which is a bronzey shade or some darker browns/plums. Many of these are either discontinued or currently not in stock but I was able to find a great duo that comes with Honey Dude and a dark brown at Ulta which I linked! Ulta has a few other duos available.
Trestique Shadow Crayons
Eyeshadow crayons are something that I have definitely fell in love with in 2020. I have previously had a Trestique shadow stick in Venetian Shimmer years ago that I got in my Ipsy Glam Bag. I really loved it and was reintrouduced to the brand this year. Their Shadow Crayons are some of the best in the market. They come in shimmers and mattes and are super pigmented. They last all day and are perfect for a great quick eye look. You can check out my review of some Trestique products HERE
ColourPop Super Shock Shadows
These have been my favorite single shadows for years. The formula of these is so unique and they are super affordable! They are so pigmented and don't crease at all. They are another great product for creating a quick look or even to layer to add more drama to an eye look. You can check out my favorites HERE
Morphe x Madison Beer Channel Surfing Artistry Palette
This is a newer palette that I got at the end of 2020 but I wanted to mention it because its really affordable and offers a lot of variety for different neutral looks. I haven't bought too many palettes this year but this one definitely stood out. You can check out my review and swatches HERE
Natasha Denona Mini Glam Eyeshadow Palette & Natasha Denona Mini Nude Eyeshadow Palette
These mini Natasha Denona palettes were something that I wanted to buy for a while. I have always wanted to try her palettes but they are pretty pricey. I finally decided to pick up two of her mini palettes to see how I like her formulas. I must say they are pretty amazing. I got two neutral palettes because I knew that they would get the most use. I barley ever hit pan on shadows so that is why I chose the minis. She sells a ton of different mini palettes in different color schemes. I'm glad she has also launched a handful of more affordable larger palettes that are $65.00. I plan to pick up one of the larger ones at some point. Until then, if price is a concern, these mini ones are totally worth it!
It Cosmetics Brow Power Micro Universal Defining Eyebrow Pencil
Brows are a definite focal point in my beauty routine. I spend the most time on my brows out of all the time I spend doing my makeup. It doesn't come as a surprise that I have a ton of different brow products that I have used this year and love. This first product is newer to me. I tried it for the first time this year. I really like how thin this pencil is and that it is a universal color. Its not too soft but not too hard either and makes filling in your brows so easy.
Nyx Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil
This is an oldie but goodie. This is my favorite drug store brow pencil that I have been repurchasing over and over for years. Again, its a great thin pencil that allows for precise detail. It's probably one of my most repurchased beauty products ever.
Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil
This is my other favorite more high end brow pencil. All 3 of these brow pencils perform very similar. This one is a little bit lighter color wise than the other two. It allows me to play off my natural brow shape and create a beautiful full natural brow with ease.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo
This is my go to brow powder when I want to add one to my brow routine. You can use it alone for a more natural look or use it with a pencil to create more dimension to your brows. Its another product I have been using for years and years.
Wander Beauty Frame Your Face Precise Brow Gel
This is a newer brow gel that I tried this past year. I love the shape and size of the brush. Its perfect if you have smaller brows but works for larger brows like mine as well.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel
Another oldie but goodie, this will always be on my holy grail list. I have been using this for close to 14 years and will always recommend this clear brow gel.
Beauty Junkees Clear Brow Gel
This is a newer brand that I was introduced to this year. Its a smaller indie brand that I have grown to love. Their brow gel is one of my favorite products but they also have some amazing brow tools as well!
Benefit Boi-ing Cakeless Full Coverage Waterproof Liquid Concealer
I took a Benefit virtual brow class in the fall and the instructor Jared Bailey used this to clean up the models brows. I just so happened to have this concealer already and have been using it to clean up my brows ever since.
Ciate London Watermelon Burst Hydrating Primer
I got this primer in my Glam Bag Plus this summer and have reached for it ever since! Its a gel formula which I love. Its also hydrating and does a great job at keeping my makeup looking flawless all day. It also has a slight watermelon scent which I love.
ColourPop Cosmetics Pretty Fresh Tinted Moisturizer
I experimented a lot with foundations this past summer. Heavy full coverage products which I usually prefer just don't work well with mask wearing. I have found that lighter is better. This has been my go to complexion product for the past 9+ months. It gives just enough coverage to give your skin more even coverage. Paired with concealer and powder it does give a nice medium coverage which is how I normally wear it. It doesn't rub off too much after wearing a mask which is a huge plus. You can check out my review HERE
ColourPop Cosmetics Pretty Fresh Foundation
When I'm not wearing the Pretty Fresh Tinted Moisturizer I am wearing this Pretty Fresh Foundation. It medium to full coverage foundation. I tend to lean towards the medium coverage but you can definitely build this up to full coverage if that is what you like. This is my "going out" foundation which nowadays just equates to going out to dinner. I wear this foundation when I want to look a little more glam. It also does a pretty good job at not rubbing off when when wearing a mask. I would say its a more demi matte coverage and doesn't accentuate and lines or pores. Its also super affordable.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer
I was obsessed with this right before covid hit. I was wearing it to work non stop. It gave me a nice natural finish and was really good coverage. It also doubles as a moisturizer if you chose to go without. I love how this feels on my skin and how it wears throughout the day.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Matte Oil Free Moisturizer
I picked this up in the summer because of how much I liked the original formula. I have combo skin and tend to get more oily in the summer. This has more of a matte finish but it isn't super matte. I think I like it a tiny bit more than the regular formula. Either way both are great and definitely worth checking out. This is a bit heavier coverage than the ColourPop Pretty Fresh Foundation but not much. Both give a flawless look.
ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hyaluronic Creamy Concealer
This has been my go to concealer ever since I got it. I still love Tarte Shape Tape and its still my holy grail. However, I think this concealer works better with masks and doesn't rub off quite as easily as Shape Tape. I also feel like this looks more natural when pairing with my tinted moisturizers and lighter coverage foundations. It has great coverage but isn't super full coverage. It dries down but not super matte. Its just a great every day concealer. I haven't really reached for any of my other concealers since I got this.
L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte 16HR Powder
This has been my favorite powder since in launched many years ago. I use it to set my makeup every time I do my makeup. It does a great job at helping my makeup last and look great all day.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
This is another holy grail product for me. I have tried so many different setting powders but nothing quite compares. I only use this to set my undereyes and tzone. It does a fantastic job and doesn't look cakey or crepe-y at all.
Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder
This is the setting powder that I use more mainly because of the price. It super affordable and comes in many shades. Its not AS good as the Laura Mercier one but it is definitely a more affordable alternative. I use this to set my undereyes and tzone. It can get a little cakey if I put too much but I always make sure to dusy away any excess. It definitely helps my makeup last throughout the day.
Too Faced Chocolate Gold Soleil Bronzer
I didn't think I would like this bronzer as much as I do. It gives my skin a beautiful sun kissed glow with a little sheen. Its not super glittery but does have shimmer to it. I tend to use a shimmery bronzer when I am using a matte blush and vice versa. This also smells amazing.
Nyx Matte Bronzer
This is definitely my favorite matte bronzer that I have tried. I have it in light for winter and medium for summer. It gives nice warmth to the skin and allows me to create depth in my looks. This is probably my most used bronzer.
Urban Decay Afterglow Blush
I'm pretty sure these are now discontinued but I wanted to mention them because I love them so much. I'm not sure if Urban Decay replaced them but they are just so pretty and blend so nice into the skin. I have a few shades that I reach for all the time. My two favorite shades are Fetish and Kinky. I hope they come out with something similar in the future!
Ofra Cosmetics x Samantha March River Bronzer Duo
This collection was probably my favorite collab of 2020. Beauty Influencer Samantha March collaborated with Ofra to create a handful of products. Her whole collection flowed like a story with every piece being thoughtfully created and named. All of the products were great but this bronzer and the blush were my favorite from the collection. This bronzer is split in two and has a matte side and a shimmer size. I like to swirl them together and use as one custom shade. This bronzer gives my skin a nice glow without being too warm toned. You can check out my whole review of this collection HERE
Ofra Cosmetics x Samantha March Chick Lit Blush Duo
As mentioned this was my other favorite product from the collection. This too has a split pan with a matte blush on one size and a shimmer on the other. This creates such a beauty shimmery rose shade. Its definitely one of my favorite blushes that I own.
Phase Zero Blush in Making Moves
I got this in my fall or winter FabFitFun box. I was shocked at how good it was. It is a nice peachy shimmer that gives such a beautiful glow. It has a ton of pigmentation and reminds me of the summer.
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
This is another holy grail item. Urban Decay hands down has the best setting sprays on the market. I have owned all 3 of their main setting sprays at some point in time. This one has been my go to for the past year or two. It keeps your making in place all day and is also a great way to refresh your makeup.
Jaclyn Cosmetics Flash Palette
Unfortunately this palette was limited edition and is no longer available so I can't link it for you. However, this highlighter palette was definitely one of my go-tos in 2020. The highlighters are so beautiful and finely milled. I use all 4 shades in the palette and thing its just a really great product. You can check out my review HERE Jaclyn Hill just launched a limited edition VDay collection that sold out in 10 minutes but she also announced that she has a ton of products coming in 2021! I'm sure she will launch more highlighters and when she does you should definitely check them out! She also announced she will be launching all her products in Ulta as well. I'm really pumped about that!
Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick
My all time favorite liquid lipsticks are the ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips however, ColourPop seems to have discontinued them and replaced them with the Lux Liquid Lipsticks. In my opinion, they aren't anywhere near as good. I still have a bunch that I use but they are all past expiration. Luckily, I was reintroduced to Dose of Colors a couple years ago through BoxyCharm. I really like their liquid lipsticks! They are currently my favorite matte formula out there. I have used them a TON during covid since they are mask friendly and do not transfer. Some of my favorite shades are Truffle, My Main, and Lasy Daisy. I just ordered their Velvet Mousse Lipsticks so I am interested to see how they compare to the ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips!
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick
I have wanted to try Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks for a while and finally took the leap this spring They are a high end brand and a bit pricey so that is why I have waited so long to purchase. I was able to snag a deal on the Charlotte Tilbury site and picked up this lipstick and one of her liners. I picked up the shade Pillow Talk and its such a great everyday color. I love the formula and was so happy that I purchased it. Sephora also sells a mini set of the Pillow Talk Duo on their site which is great if you don't want to commit to the full sizes. I plan to pick up a few more shades soon like Very Victoria. You can check out my review of the Pillow Talk Duo HERE
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Liners
These are definitely awesome lip liners! I have Pillow Talk and Iconic Nude. I'm pretty sure Iconic Nude was one of the lip liners that I've reached for the most since I got it. It is the perfect nude liner. Pillow talk is great too and goes perfectly with the Pillow Talk lipstick. These liners are so creamy and pigmented and not drying at all.
Juvia's Place The Nudes Velvely Matte Lipstick
I got this whole nude collection as part of Juvia's Place PR. I was able to try out their new bullet lipsticks, liners, and glosses. Nudes are my favorite lip color so I was excited to try out this formula. It is SO GOOD. I love how creamy and pigmented they are and the color range is awesome. Even more great is the price! I reached for these so much since I got them. The aren't as mask friendly but they are amazing in general. You can check out my review of the whole collection HERE
Juvia's Place Lux Lip Liners
These are hands down my favorite lip liners of 2020. They are super affordable, creamy, and pigmented. The best part is they are twist up so you don't have to sharpen them! Luxe and Lush are my favorite shades that I reach for the most.
Juvia's Place Lip Reflect Gloss
These are amazing glosses. I prefer lipstick over gloss but I found myself reaching for these glosses a lot since I have been working from home since March and don't makeup nearly as much as I used to before covid. These smell great and aren't super sticky.
If you made it to the end of this post CONGRATS! and I really appreciate your support! Stay tuned for my skincare favorites of 2020 up next!
