I found something that I feel can give Crabtree & Evelyn La Source Hand Therapy (my previous review) a run for their money! And that is The Body Shop - Cocoa Butter Hand & Body Lotion.
I will sort of do a Show-Down between the two of them here.
Cocoa Butter Hand & Body Lotion
Available: The Body Shop
Volume: 250ml $20.90, 500ml $29.90
Star Properties: For centuries the women of Ghana have used cocoa butter to moisturise and cool their skin in the African heat. Shea butter from Ghana, is one of nature's great moisturizers. Ghanaian women have used it for centuries to protect their skin from the dry Saharan winds. (Credits to TBS website)
Smell
To be honest, I don't really like the smell. La Source Hand Therapy is definitely more pleasing. But that said, the smell of cocoa butter is still a very pleasant and acceptable one.
Texture
Cocoa butter is thicker than La Source. But still, a little, goes a really long way. Same as La Source, I only need a 1-cent coin to spread over both hands nicely. More than that, and I can go all the way up my arms, my neck etc. =)))
Absorbent
What really amazes me is that despite the more viscous feel of cocoa butter, it absorbs so well into my skin, just like La Source. So happy with this point.
Multi-Purpose
I like the fact that it says hand and body lotion. Because for La Source Hand Therapy, I find it such a waste to use it anywhere else except my hands.
After-use Feel
LOVE IT! You can't imagine how I exclaimed when I felt my SO's hands that day. I was like, "wow, why is your hand suddenly so soft?" He told me he had only been using Cocoa Butter for the past 2 days.
As for myself, I can say that the softening effect is immediate.
Comparatively, La Source is virtually zero softening effect. I only like it because it is ultra duper absorbent, fragrant, doesn't leaves a film, high staying power, and makes my hands smooth.
Staying Power
Quite alright, it does not drop, as I feel that most of it is absorbed into the skin the moment you apply.
I would still like to apply more after I wash my hands anyway, especially if after eating greasy chicken and washing with soap.
Price
So affordable compared to La Source. Super affordable. During last year's Christmas Promo, I got mine at the cheapest $8/25ml (even cheaper than if I had bought their pump bottle). But for TBS Cocoa Butter, their large bottle is $29.90 for 500ml, equivalent to $1.50/25ml.
Even if you wanted to get the small 60ml bottle, it's still cheaper.
Packaging
Moreover, I find TBS small 60ml bottle much, much, much more durable than the aluminium tube of La Source. So no problems for slipping it into your handbag and essentials pouch etc.
The only part that is troublesome, is that TBS bottle is well-known to be hard to squeeze out, for the last drop. So I guess, it is better to change a new 60ml bottle for your handbag, and leave the hard to squeeze bottle for use at home.
I love it: 5 hearts.
Except for the not as fragrant smell, I definitely think TBS Cocoa Butter beats La Source. For my "moneysense" readers, this is something really good for your pocket. =)
