Oh, Those Chinese Babies

It's usually African-Americans who get stereotyped as commonly giving their babies weird-ass names. But maybe that stereotype should shift to the Chinese, in light of the fact that nearly 3,500 Chinese babies have been named "Aoyun," which means "Olympics." It's a trend that began around 2000, when Beijing started bidding to host the 2008 Olympics.

However, Chinese babies don't need an "Olympic" name to evoke the spirit of athletic excellence. The parents of a 4-year-old boy threw him on the back of a whale—for what reason, I'm not sure.
